BASIC SAFETY

Road Safety Tips

Road and vehicle safety begins when you bring your new baby home from the hospital. No matter how careful you are as a driver, there are plenty of careless drivers on the road and it is imperative that your child is properly secured while travelling. Remember that prevention is better than cure when it comes to your child’s safety so take note of the following 8 tips:

  1. Children should travel in an SABS approved, size appropriate car seat and be buckled up at all times

  2. Make sure that your young child cannot wander out of your property into the road; keep the gate/door closed at all times.

  3. Be alert in your driveway – small children are not always visible in your mirrors.

  4. Never leave young children unattended in a vehicle.

  5. Start teaching your child the rules of the road as soon as possible.

  6. Set a good example to your children by always wearing your safety belt and crossing the road safely.

  7. Always have the child safety locks activated while traveling.

  8. NEVER leave your child in the car while you do shopping, have your hair done etc. Temperatures rise very quickly in stationery vehicles and children can die from heatstroke and hyperthermia.
